VINTAGE CHEONGSAM
Intent Matters….
I've been reflecting a lot on definitions lately. I've come to realize the immense power of words and I want to avoid misusing them. While I know I still slip up occasionally, I'm committed to improving.
It was amusing to learn that the term "vintage" primarily refers to high-quality wine. Hits home! Additionally, vintage can signify something of exceptional quality from the past or the pinnacle of a person's work.
I visited my favorite thrift store to find something special for an occasion. I was drawn to a vintage cheongsam dress—an exquisite hand-stitched black velvet piece adorned with embroidered flowers along the bodice. Little did I know, I would be honored with an award that night for my service in the Youth Ministry at my church. What an honor, what a pleasant surprise, and what a fitting occasion!
The cheongsam is an iconic representation of Chinese culture. When worn with respect and awareness, it can symbolize a positive gesture of cross-cultural appreciation. In the early 20th century, cheongsams were worn by celebrities, socialites, and students from esteemed missionary schools, leading to the perception of the cheongsam-style uniform as Bourgeois.
In true Toni style my phone died and these are the only photos captured!
Cheers to Vintage! Cheers to Cheongsam!
